Craig Tyrrell

Chairman

 

Craig has vast experience in all aspects of business spending 8 years working for HM Revenue & Customs. He then spent a further 4 years working as a tax consultant for a “Big Four” practice before concentrating on his own practice which he had set up in 1989.

Craig’s vision and creative thinking is a huge asset to both the firm and the clients who seek his help growing and developing their own businesses. He has an extremely positive outlook on business and is constantly driving our business with his forward thinking.

Craig enjoys reading, sport and socialising in his spare time.

Richard Suswain

Managing Partner

 

Richard started working with Craig in 1995 after working together in the tax department of a “Big Four” practice. He has experienced all areas of the practice from payroll to accounts and tax return preparation.

Richard became Managing Partner in 2008 and is now responsible for the day to day running of the business and plays a large part in it's future development. He is constantly looking to push himself and is positive and prompt in the way he goes about his business.

Having three young children takes up most of Richard's spare time, however he enjoys sport and can often be spotted at Newmarket Racecourse.

Darren Purcell

Partner

 

Having spent 6 years working for a “Big Four” practice, Darren joined Tyrrell and Company in 1997 and has since become a partner. Darren carries out a lot of tax work for our clients as well as managing a portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and individuals. In addition to this work, Darren helps clients with buy to let properties and advises on a whole range of aspects to be considered. Darren has a great relationship with his clients and is always on hand to help other team members.

Darren has two daughters and enjoys horseracing and football when time allows.

Nick Florence

Partner

 

Nick is a partner who joined Tyrrell & Company in 1999 after spending 14 years working for HM Revenue and Customs. Nick helps many small businesses and individuals to great effect in accountancy and taxation matters. In particular he specialises in Revenue enquiries and compliance having seen the way they work from both sides. Nick also focuses customer service and ensuring we exceed our clients' expectations. Nick has a superb rapport with his clients and colleagues.

Nick is a keen sports fan and has two children who keep him busy when he is not working.

Kerstin Meeson Smith

Partner

 

Kerstin’s training as an accountant commenced in 1972 and since then has developed into an extremely professional practice accountant (FCA) with high levels of integrity and technical ability. Her past achievements include setting up and running her own practice from nothing to one with an incredible local presence which eventually merged with a national firm. Kerstin is a partner and joined Tyrrell and Company in May 2007.

She is loyal, hardworking, committed and focused and has the ability to get the best out of people. Kerstin has a considerable understanding of client needs and is able to translate these needs into positive action plans. She is very passionate about assisting businesses and is proactive in helping them reach their true potential.

Kerstin normally works on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and does a lot of charitable work outside office hours.

Lorraine Scott - FCCA

Lorraine has a wealth of experience in all areas of accountancy work since she started working in private practice in 1988. She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and excels at helping clients develop their businesses. Her portfolio of clients mainly consists of corporate entities but she also relishes the opportunity to help sole traders and partnerships. Lorraine joined Tyrrell and Company in 2008.

Lorraine is an outgoing person with lots of interest including travel, keeping fit, cinema and cooking.

Louise Kennedy - ACCA

Account Manager

 

Louise joined the practice in 2008 and since then has developed a fantastic relationship with her portfolio of clients. She possesses strong communication and people skills and is keen to add value to a business. As a Chartered Certified Accountant, Louise has experience in working in both private practice and as an accountant in industry. Louise specialises in the medical sector and has helped many practices with her forward thinking and willingness to offer new ideas and approaches.

Outside of work, Louise enjoys keeping fit and socialising.

Alison Rookes - ACCA

Account Manager

 

Alison is a Chartered Certified Accountant who has good all-round finance and administration skills. She has a wealth of experience in dealing in many aspects of business before choosing to pursue a career in accountancy several years ago. Alison is a very hard working and sociable team member who has a great sense of humour! Alison has a wide and varied knowledge of accountancy and can advise on issues such as VAT and software.

Alison enjoys reading and exercise when she is not working.

Clare Taylor - ACCA

Account Manager

 

As a Chartered Certified Accountant, Clare brings a wealth a technical knowledge to the firm. Having joined the firm in 2007, Clare specialises mainly in dealing with some of our larger corporate clients and is happy to advise on a variety of services including management accounts. Clare is a dedicated and hardworking team member who is always looking to build on her existing expertise.

Outside office hours, Clare enjoys reading and socialising.

Sophie Ball - FCCA

Account Manager

 

Sophie joined the firm in 2009 with a view to continuing to grow our specialised Equine sector. She enjoyed previous positions in the horse racing world working for Darley Stud Management and leading Newmarket trainer, John Gosden. These positions, together with her experience in working in private practice give Sophie fantastic experience in her field. She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and works on a wide and varied selection of clients.

Sophie works on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and outside these days her time is spent looking after her two children.

Annie Owen - ACCA

Account Manager

 

Annie is a Chartered Certified Accountant who joined the firm in 2006. She has great technical knowledge of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies and is always keen to build on her existing skills. Prior to joining the firm, Annie worked for Anglian Water Services and Bidwells Property Consultants.

Annie works on Thursdays and Fridays whilst being kept on her toes on the other days by her twin boys!

Kelly Anstee - MAAT

Account Manager

 

Having originally worked in the company through her school work experience, Kelly joined the firm in 2002 as a trainee. During the years she has been here, Kelly has gained a wealth of experience in dealing with the accounts and tax affairs of sole traders and individuals. Kelly is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and now looks after a busy portfolio of clients. She is an energetic member of the team who has a passion for meeting new contacts through networking.

Outside of work Kelly enjoys socialising, music and dancing.

Helen Edwards - MAAT

Account Manager

 

Helen Joined Tyrrell and Company in 2008 having previously worked for other local practices. Helen is a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and deals with the accountancy and tax affairs of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. Helen is a conscientious team member who has excellent accountancy skills.

Helen works on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and apart from spending time with her daughter she enjoys reading, keeping fit and cooking.

Mark Baldwin - Partner

Payroll & Admin

 

Mark had 13 years experience working for HM Revenue and Customs before joining Tyrrell & Company in 2002. Mark deals with all aspects of payroll and the Construction Industry Scheme and he is extremely reliable and efficient in dealing with these matters. Because of Mark’s experience, clients find him very knowledgeable about all PAYE matters.

Mark’s interests outside work revolve around sport (mainly horseracing and football).

Alison Meehan

Since joining the firm in 2000, Alison has had a wide and varied role in the business. She has carried out duties ranging from reception work to book keeping which give her a great understanding of our company. Now Alison focuses mainly on credit control, payroll and preparing monthly CIS returns. She carries out her work efficiently and is fully committed to the firm.

Outside of work, Alison enjoys reading, watching films and travel.

Chris Brown

Payroll & Admin

 

Chris joined the firm in 2007 as an administrator. He is responsible for running our customer relationship management software in addition to the host of other administrative tasks he carries out. Chris is always willing to help team members and clients in any way he can. Chris's main hobby is soul/dance music, presenting his own radio show (on Star 107.9FM) and being a DJ on the local circuit.

Julie Jones

Payroll & Admin

 

Julie is a friendly and approachable receptionist who has always had a background in administration. Her previous roles include working for Cambridge City Council and local BMW dealer. She joined the firm in 2006 and is highly thought of by both staff and clients.

Julie is a proud Grandma who loves socialising outside work.

James Field - Partner

James has been working in Credit Management since 1988, working for HM Revenue and Customs and a number of Multi National companies along with smaller regional businesses. He has focused on pre-legal and cash collection, along with implementing credit policy. Prior to establishing the Credit Management arm James was a Credit Manager for the UK and Ireland at a multi national distribution company controlling their credit policy and managing a team of credit controllers. He now specialises in the full/partial outsource credit control, debt collection and pre legal advice.

James is married with two young children.

Val Mynott

Valerie has been working in credit control since 1988, working for a number of National and Multi National companies, where she has concentrated on credit control, export and self bill. Prior to joining Tyrrell & Company Valerie was a credit controller for a large manufacturing company where she deals in cash collection, resolving customer queries and daily banking. She now specialises in credit control and debt collection.

Valerie is married and enjoys spending her free time with her grandchildren.

Nigel Tyrrell

Nigel has been working in Financial Services since 1982, working for a number of major Life Assurance companies where he specialised in retirement planning and investment advice. Prior to establishing the Wealth Management arm Nigel was an adviser working for an IFA specialising in providing advice for accountancy clients. He now specialises in Tax Strategy planning, retirement planning and investment advice.

Nigel is married and is no longer as athletic as his youth, preferring a good movie and meal out to a work out.

Steve Greenhaigh - Partner

A former BBC broadcast journalist, Steve moved into PR 20 years ago, working with one of London's biggest agencies on blue chip accounts such as IBM and HBG Construction. He switched to in-house and, during a stint as Media Director for the Royal National Institute for the Blind, was responsible for the charity's largest ever sponsorship deal with British Gas. A new role with CrossRail saw Steve leading extensive crisis comms activity during the controversial four year project to cut two new tunnels under the City of London, as well as dismantle British Rail.

Back in agency, his media campaign was instrumental in securing the controversial - and successful - American bid to oust GEC as the Government's preferred supplier of Early Warning defence aircraft in favour of AWACS. A desire for a change of work / life balance prompted Steve to found Real PR seven years ago.

Damion Clark - Partner

Damion is a PR professional of more than 14 years standing. A Business to Business and financial services specialist, he has also worked with leading blue chip consumer and healthcare brands, helping to shape a well-rounded understanding of the PR industry. Damion's financial experience includes work with leading mortgage technology solutions companies, general insurance providers, building societies and bridging loan companies.

Damion joined Real PR in 2005 and became a partner of the firm in 2009.
